    Technical Writer

     

    Rudolph Technologies, Inc. is a worldwide leader in the design, development, manufacture and support of process control equipment and data analysis systems and software used by microelectronic device manufacturers worldwide. Our Emerging Solutions Business Unit (ESBU) is looking for a Technical Writer who will create technical product documentation in a self-directed manner. You will gather information necessary to create documents for internal and external customers and lead document reviews. Documentation will relate to the configuration, operation and maintenance of Rudolph Technologies ESBU products. 

    Responsibilities

    Key Areas of Responsibility:

     

    Prepare and maintain technical documents targeted to external customers.

    • Such documents include, but are not limited to: documentation for custom applications and hardware, maintenance guides, site preparation guides, crating/uncrating guides, upgrade instructions.
    • Documentation will apply to hardware, software, or both.
    • Preparation of documents includes (1) interviewing subject matter experts, (2) writing, editing and proofreading text and (3) creating and/or modifying graphics (digital photographs, screen capture images, line drawings and diagrams, flow charts, etc.).
    • Documentation is developed for distribution in electronic form from established templates.
    • Maintain necessary department standards (style guides, FrameMaker templates, etc.)

    Qualifications

    Competency/Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
    • Minimum 3 - 5 years professional technical writing experience related to engineering disciplines (software development, electrical or mechanical engineering, etc.).
    • Must have strong writing, editing, organizational and communication skills and meticulous attention to detail.
    • Strong experience using industry-standard tools such as FrameMaker and Acrobat as well as MS Office.
    • Ability and willingness to work with engineers and other co‑workers in a cooperative team environment.
    • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
    • Ability to work on multiple concurrent projects.
    • Semiconductor industry experience and knowledge of imaging and software-controlled mechanics/systems is preferred.

     

    Working Relationships:

    Works with:

    • Subject matter experts (software, hardware and manufacturing engineers, etc.) to get raw data and to refine such data into information appropriate to its target audience.
    • Quality Assurance analysts to assure the accuracy and completeness of customer documentation, and to provide feedback to QA concerning potential problem areas in products.
    • Customer Service personnel for obtaining source material for development and review of training material, maintenance guides and other service documentation.
    • Manufacturing personnel to obtain additional assembly and product information for inclusion into maintenance guides, installation instructions and other hardware related documentation.
